Elections – Elections – Elections

On 22nd May, as well as the European election, you will have the chance to vote for 3 councillors to represent the area on Milton Keynes Council.

The ward boundaries have changed, and your area is now in a new ward called Monkston, which includes some of the former Middleton and Walton Park wards.

All the Councillors on Milton Keynes Council will be up for election at once this year. The new ward will have three councillors, and so you will have THREE votes for Councillors as well as one for the MEP.

The Liberal Democrats have chosen three hard working members to represent you.  They are:

  • Jenni Ferrans
  • Vanessa McPake
  • Subhan Shafiq

You will have seen the work that they have been doing for many years in your area as councillors and campaigners.
They have helped many local residents, provided information through Focus and consulted you on many issues.

Three things to remember
1. The Liberal Democrat Focus Team has helped thousands of people over the years.
2. Liberal Democrats work hard all year round, not just at election time.
3. Labour has always come third here.

The Focus Team: Jenni Ferrans, Vanessa McPake and Subhan Shafiq are up for election on May 22nd.

Over the past two months a gang of young people seem to have been having a mindless field day in Kents Hill Park and the young children’s play area.

Some trees, the stakes supporting the trees and the main picnic table and bench have been removed from in and around the play area. Worse, all were then dumped in the middle of Crowborough Lane!

Many thanks to the residents who informed the police and moved stuff out of the road!

The Focus team are trying to get the picnic bench and trees replaced and they have asked the Police to patrol or install a camera for a while to see if they can catch the offenders.

Grit Bins – Update

Thank you to all the residents who took part in our recent survey both on-line and in Focus.
The Conservative-run MK Council has done a U-turn and are now saying they will pay for some grit bins but not until April!

The Lib Dems have put in bids for bins in Bartholomew Close, Walton Park and for Canonbury, in Monkston Park. We are now submitting a bid for one on the corner of Leominster Gate, Monkston.

Stronger Economy – Help us Protect Three Million Jobs

Will you help us protect the 3 million British jobs that depend on Europe?
UKIP want to put those jobs at risk by pulling us out of Europe. Only the Liberal Democrats are standing up for those British workers whose jobs depend on us being in Europe.

This is a really major issue in Milton Keynes.  We have lots of firms owned by european companies, who rely on easy traffic and transport of goods between their base here and Europe.  We have other firms whose main market is in Europe, and who don’t have to worry about import restrictions and trade agreements as a result. And we have still more firms that depend on european trade agreements to import their goods from countries world-wide. If we leave the EU, all that has to be renegotiated – and it can take years!

Planning Meeting – Waltons

Residents discuss the plans for Walton Manor and Limbaud Close, Walton Park with the Focus team

Residents discuss the plans for Walton Manor and Limbaud Close, Walton Park with the Focus team

Thank you to all the residents who attended the recent public meeting the Lib Dem Focus team organised so that people could have their say on the proposals for Walton Manor and the Chase Avenue development.

The Chase Avenue plans were already in, and residents got a good look at what was proposed.  Amendments have been put in since, so look on the website for more details at:

http://publicaccess2.milton-keynes.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=MXFGZTKWB5000

All the residents comments on Walton Manor will be given to MK Council so that they know the strength of feeling of local residents
on some aspects of the proposals.  The brief will go to the Cabinet for approval before going to MKDP to be included in the pack when they market the site to the developers.

Developments in Walton

On 28/3/2014 the Liberal Democrat Focus team held an exhibition about the proposed new developments in the Walton area.  These include 5 self-build houses off Limbaud Close/Chase Avenue in Walton Park, and a new site to be developed, north of Simpson Road by Walton Grange and the industry there.

What is decided at this stage can’t be undone later!  Please – HAVE YOUR SAY NOW!

Community Transport for the elderly and disabled under threat from Conservative cuts

There has been a partial success on the PlusBus Community Transport service. Although the Liberal Democrat amendment to MK Council’s budget to save the PlusBus service in its current form was voted down by Conservative and Labour Councillors, your pressure helped force them to  add £200,000 to the budget to fund the transition of the service. So, although ultimately the service will be reduced current users will be protected by transitional arrangements for some time.

The Council will be devising plans for the new service, and any restrictions on its use, over the summer – so watch this space!
